Baber to Play Softball for Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College
Adyson Baber, Hamilton Heights’ senior, has signed a letter of intent to play softball for the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Pomeroys in Saint Mary of the Woods, Indiana, this fall. SMWC is a member of the United States College Athletic Association (USCAA). She is the daughter of Dylan and Susan Baber.
“I chose to go to SMWC not just because of the amazing softball program but because it felt like a second home,” said Adyson Baber, of meeting amazing people and falling in love with the campus during her visit earlier in the year. “I felt like I could get the kind of education that would provide the most advantages in life after college as I pursue a career as a physical therapist.”
A multi-sport athlete (basketball, softball and wrestling), Baber said softball is her passion, playing since about the age of 7. Named the most improved for softball two years in a row and receiving an honorable mention, Baber has been a solid member of the Lady Huskies Softball team as a pitcher during her three-year tenure. “Playing on a local league when I was younger and then on a travel team along with hard work, training, and practice has helped me to improve my skills and be a stronger player,” she added. “I’m still growing and think my best years on the field are ahead.”
Baber credits her parents as being the most instrumental in her development as a student athlete. “My dad always pushed me to be the best no matter what and my mother always encouraged me to never give up even when I wanted to,” said Baber, who spends time assisting the high school’s athletic training when she can. “I feel ready to take my game and education to the next level.”
“I had the privilege of coaching Adyson for three years of her high school career,” said former Girls Softball Coach Landi Lockwood, “Adyson is a quality player who works hard, encourages her teammates to be their best, and is determined to always do her best. She has a great competitive spirit that has pushed her to improve her game year after year. She is determined and tough and is very deserving of this accomplishment.”
“Adyson has been a multi-sport athlete at Hamilton Heights and has excelled at everything she’s done,” added Kurt Ogden, Hamilton Heights Athletic Director. “She has committed herself to softball the past four years and it’s exciting to see her hard work pay off. We wish her well at SMWC as she continues her softball career.”
