HHSC 1:1 Technology Device Management
Device Management Overview
HHSC offers a comprehensive 1:1 device program for enrolled students. Our devices are assigned based on the student's graduation year and follow this structure:
- Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade have a school-issued Apple iPad
- Students in high school (grades 9-12) have a school-issued Apple MacBook Air
Device restrictions are a bit different depending on the student's graduation year (or grade level). Read below for a detailed explanation of how our 1:1 devices are managed at each building in regards to security, filtering, and content management.
Device Restrictions
About the Linewize Filter
Linewize plays a critical role in keeping our students safe online. The product has robust features, including individual reporting and details about commonly-accessed online materials.
- This is a living, fluid process that is ever growing and improving.
- We continue to grow the block search list as we learn more terms that need to be blocked
- If a website is not automatically blocked by the filter and is discovered and reported by administration or teachers as inappropriate or unnecessary, we can add it to the list of blocked sites
Google Services & Usage
Our district uses Google for Education for our staff and students. In regards to student Google services, please keep the following in mind:
- All students have a Google account created when they enroll.
- Students have access to Google Meet for our synchronous e-learning days.
- Gmail access is restricted based on Grade Level:
- K-4 students have restricted access to an approved list of senders
- Grades 5-8 students have restricted access to an approved list of senders
- Grades 9-12 students have full access to all senders
- Gmail access is a privilege. Access to Gmail can be revoked for failure to use it appropriately.
Technology Discipline
In certain situations, discipline relating to technology may be needed.
- All discipline for students is a case-by-case basis decided upon by the administration of that building.
- We do have the ability to lock groups of students and/or individual students down with tighter web access or device tool access as directed by the building administration for both long and short terms.
