Portrait of a Graduate

The Hamilton Heights Portrait of a Graduate outlines the skills and attributes our students need for success after high school.

What is the Portrait of a Graduate?

HHSC's Portrait of a Graduate is our idea of the characteristics that students should possess upon graduation. These traits ensure graduates are equipped for life's many intricacies and challenges.

The Portrait of a Graduate was developed by middle school students. These students worked together--in teams--to design it, taking into consideration graphics, colors, and word choices. They did a remarkable job--the finished result looks polished and professional.

The students involved reflected well upon the time they spent working on this project, stating that they gained valuable insights into creativity and design techniques, time management, deadlines, compromise in teamwork, leadership, and maturity. They also commented that the skills they gained--such as communication, collaboration, taking criticism and using it to improve something, presentation skills, and confidence--are some that will they will use throughout their lives.

The concept of the POG can be summed up in four words: Learn, Grow, Explore, and Serve. Read below to learn more about these ideals.

How did the Portrait of a Graduate come to be?

The HHSC Portrait of a Graduate was lovingly handcrafted by middle school students. These students presented their ideas to teachers, staff members, and a small group of other students. These individuals provided invaluable feedback to the students working on the project, allowing them to make meaningful changes.

After the changes were made, the student teams prepared the final POGs and presented at the SAC. After the presentation, feedback forms were given to the community members, business representatives, and others in attendance; the results were then forwarded to the individual teams for further consideration and refinement.

Fun fact: color choice was an extensive debate. There were some who favored featuring blue, green, red, and yellow; however, ultimately, it was decided that the Husky colors would be more appropriate for such a project due to the strong connection to the school. It all comes down to one easy fact: We are Huskies!
