Grade 7

In English, they'll:

• Identify theme, plot, character, point of view, and elements of plot
• Learn to write an effective introduction, essay outline, and conclusion
• Use context, including Greek or Latin affixes and roots, to clarify word meanings
• Learn about propaganda techniques and identify author bias
• Describe how dynamic characters are portrayed at different points in the book
• Compare and contrast ancient myths with modern interpretations

In Math, they'll:

• Determine the squares and square roots of all perfect squares
• Add and subtract rational numbers
• Simplify algebraic expressions by combining like terms
• Find unit rates
• Convert between fractions, decimals, and percents
• Find the slope of a line from its graph and graph a line given its slope and a point on the line

In Science, students will:

• Pose testable scientific questions or problems
• Evaluate the results of a controlled experiment and determine if a hypothesis was supported by the data
• Use the metric system and tools to measure length, volume, and mass
• Be able to use the compound light microscope to observe cells using prepared sides and making their own wet mount slides
• Relate Newton's first law of motion to real-world situations
• Define and provide examples of radiation, convection, and conduction
• Explain how sea-floor spreading occurs and its effect on the movement of the tectonic plates

In Social Studies, students will:

• Identify how trade and cultural diffusion impacted ancient cultures
• Compare and contrast different paths to independence
• Explain the differences between religion and ethnicity
• Using exact location and relative location, complete a map that shows major landforms and cities

In Integrated P.E., students learn about:

• Define bullying and recognize the signs of a bully
• Locomotor movements and hand/eye and foot/eye coordination
• Beachbody workouts
• Know and be able to label the parts of a bow and arrow
• Learn scoring procedures
