In English 9, they'll:

• Understand plot trajectory in a tragedy
• Gather relevant information from multiple authoritative sources, using advanced searches effectively, and annotate sources
• Define key rhetorical devices

In English 10, they'll:

• Analyze what a text says both explicitly and implicitly
• Use transitions to link major sections of text
• Examine how a text's structure creates surprise or tension and develops a theme
• Analyze acting as an interpretive art form by comparing videos of different productions of the same scenes
• Paraphrase key speeches

In English 11, students will:

• Understand author's choices/character development
• Analyze structure and vocabulary in literature
• Write arguments and apply the writing process
• Use conventions of standard English language and grammar

In English 12, students will:

• Acquire and accurately use academic and content-specific words and phrases at the college and career readiness level
• Compare and contrast the development of similar themes across two or more works of literature and analyze how they emerge and are shaped and refined by specific details
• Analyze and evaluate how an author's choices concerning structuring specific parts of a work of literature
• Draw inferences and interpretations from a text and cite evidence
