In English/Language Arts, they'll:
- Learn their letters and letter sounds by celebrating each student's name
- Write lowercase and uppercase letters, and master writing their own name
- Recognize "snap" words (words by sight)
- Recognize and use word parts to decode and write words
- Use patterns and word parts to read and write longer words.
Language isn't only about writing, however--it's also about reading!
Kindergarten students will become familiar with nonfiction, and they'll use old stories to practice retelling sing exact character and transition words. Students also learn how to sound out unknown words. By the end of the year, they'll be strong readers who can craft their own sentences!
