 Roberts Signs with Taylor University

Ashley Roberts, Hamilton Heights’ senior, has signed a letter of intent to play softball at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana this fall.  Taylor University is a member of the Crossroads League.  She is the daughter of Ed and Teresa Roberts.

“I always knew I wanted to go to a small Christian College,” said Ashley Roberts, when she began thinking about her post-secondary goals.  “When I first visited the Taylor University campus I loved it, but it wasn’t until my overnight stay that I knew I wanted to call Taylor home for the next four years.  Roberts plans to study Exercise Science at Taylor University, which is ranked #1 as the Best Regional College-Midwest by the US News & World Report.

Roberts, a tenacious and consistent player, has been playing softball since she was five.  She said there wasn’t a time where she and her dad weren’t out in the yard throwing or hitting the ball and it never stopped from there. “Softball has shaped my life,” Roberts noted.  “Day in and day out I try to improve my skills physically and mentally.”

Roberts was named All-Conference Honorable Mention 2013 and 2015; Offensive Player of the Year and named First Team All-Conference 2014; and was MVP in 2016.

Roberts, who is looking to pursue a career in Physical Therapy, credits her dad as being one of the biggest influences in her life and her best friend.  “My dad has always pushed me to be the best player and person I could be,” she said.  “Without him I wouldn’t be where I am today.  From the long, funny car rides to softball tournaments to the long talks on the way home after the games where my performances were critiqued he was right there.  I wouldn’t trade any moment we spent together.  Thank you dad for everything you’ve done for me.”

I also want to say thank you to everyone who helped me along this crazy journey,” continued Roberts.  “I couldn’t have had a better support group than my family, coaches and boyfriend.  I also want to give a shout out to Taylor University’s Women’s Head Softball Coach Brad Bowser, for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. Coach Bowser is in his seventh season at the helm of Taylor’s Women’s Softball program and currently stands as the winningest coach in the program’s history.  I can’t want to play under his leadership.”

Ashley is a member of the National Honor Society, Students in Action Group, a Husky Ambassador, and Student Athletic Trainer.

“I am very proud of Ashley,” said Landi Lockwood, Hamilton Heights Women’s Softball Coach.  “She is a talented young lady and has always had a goal of playing at the next level. She worked hard to attain that goal and I couldn’t be happier for her.”

“Ashley has been really fun to watch the past four years,” said Kurt Ogden, Hamilton Heights Athletic Director.  “She is a very talented pitcher and has played an integral part in our softball success the past two consecutive years as a semi-state qualifying team.  We hope that she can continue to be a major contributor as we seek to build on our softball success at Hamilton Heights.  And we certainly hope she takes her talents to Taylor University to spread the wealth as well.”

“We are so excited to have Ashley as a part of our program,” added Brad Bowser, Taylor University’s Women’s Softball Coach.  “She has a diverse skill set with the ability to pitch, play infield and outfield and hit for power and average.  I like the way she competes and she will be a good asset to our program.  Even more excited about who she is and her character.”
